This role, guided by a recreation supervisor or program manager, supports the development and execution of diverse recreational activities across multiple settings. Candidates must be adept at jugging various tasks in a dynamic setting, frequently engaging with children, and be willing to work a flexible schedule that includes mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
This opportunity is ideal for someone eager to become part of an enthusiastic, cooperative and committed group recreation specialists within an environment reminiscent of country club. The position encompasses oversight of the newly constructed 84-slip super marina, the celebrated Palm Beach Par 3, he Mandel Recreation Center, two tennis centers and Seaview Park, all managed by the Recreation Department and situated on Palm Bach Island, nestled between the ocean and the intracoastal waterways. Our mission is to deliver recreational, social and wellness programs to both the local community and visitors of Palm Beach Island. Responsibilities include delivering exceptional customer service, handling point of sale operations, compiling daily reports, aiding residents and guests with equipment and apparel selection, managing phone inquiries, facilitating court reservations and program registrations and providing up-to-date information on recreational activities. This is your chance to join the team that directs the esteemed tennis and pickleball programs and facilitates for the Town of Palm Beach, reporting to the Tennis Manager.
  • Provides tennis center information to the public when requested including available court times, events, programs, and court conditions.
  • Operates a computer, telephone, and other office equipment.
  • Performs a variety of custodial duties and maintains the pro shop in a neat and orderly fashion.
  • Checks in players and collects appropriate fees with the use of a computerized POS system.
  • Book court times and lessons in person and over the phone.
  • Ensures Town rules, regulations and procedures are followed.
  • Acts as manager on duty in the absence of Tennis Manager.
  • Assists with merchandising and inventory control, including quarterly inventory.
  • Assists with training of new employees.
  • Assists with the planning and organizing of special events.
  • Takes registration for tennis lessons and clinics and communicates information to the public and pros.
  • Occasionally walks courts to ensure proper play and placement of players.
  • Assists in designing and maintaining attractive displays in the pro shop.
  • Ability to balance cash register, reconcile monies collected and complete bank deposits in accordance with cash handling procedures as required.
  • Respond to issues, concerns, and complaints and resolve in a satisfying manner.
  • Receive feedback and suggestions from community members to improve activities.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
  • High School Degree or GED equivalent required. Associates Degree in Recreation, Leisure Management or related field, preferred.
  • Knowledge of tennis and tennis related terminology.
  • Two years working full time in a customer service oriented environment.
  • Experience within tennis operations strongly preferred.
  • Experience in supervising part-time staff preferred.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a Level II background screening as required by the State of Florida.
  • General knowledge of recreation program planning.
  • General knowledge of tennis programs and pro shop operations.
  • Knowledge of MS Office with proficiency in Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher, and Outlook.
  • Ability to use computerized activity registration, facility reservation, scheduling, and payment processing system for recreation activities.
  • Knowledge of recreational and tennis specific trends.
  • Ability to supervise, train and evaluate staff.
  • Effectively use a point-of-sale (POS) system.
  • Operate office equipment including computers and supporting word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
